If you take a step back and ask “What, exactly, do we need the police for and want them to do,” this sort of situation would seem to be exactly it. Armed and dangerous guy with a hostage. And yet, the police’s actions (which don’t seem to me, to display a whole lot of dexterity and skill in crisis management, at least

saying instead that the teen “may have been also involved in some of the fire exchange,” possibly “firing back at the deputies.”

I guess as long as the the cheques clear.

No recollection? Have you ever SEEN Mean Girls? He’s one of the main characters!

I’d love to understand why Americans in particular seem so susceptible to cults—Scientology, Nxivm, even Cult 45. Probably something to do with coping with the reality that we’re not all special snowflakes despite what we’ve been told for the last 50 odd years.

Having not read the books, I don’t frankly get the vibe that they are speed running these episodes, rather I get the vibe that they are taking what would normally fit into about half an episode of backstory/flashbacks (which is how most shows would handle the contextual backstory of the inevitable main story), and

I now firmly find “The Rings of Power” to be the more interesting and entertaining show.  HotD needs more fantasy than just the occasional dragon IMO

I cannot deal with Martin's writing so I just go for all of the spoilers and honestly I wonder if this episode was even comprehensible to a viewer who doesn't know the books. This was a sprint.

To anyone that has read the books, did Rhaenyra and Laenor actually try to have their own children, was it ever touched upon? While they have their agreement that they can “dine” as they choose, I’d think it would’ve been a good idea to “dine” on each other a few times so their resultant children would be above

Both Laena’s suicide and the murder of the Strongs are fiery set pieces, tragic spectacles with no groundwork laid beneath them.

Sounds like a job for Olivia Wilde. She can get it done with a minimum of drama, I think.

I think the money ruined her. Go watch her two specials from the 90’s and 00’s and then go watch the most recent one from a few years ago and whew the humor just is very elitist and luxuriates in being imperious and pretentious. Total shift from the early stuff.

I’m curious whether this is who Ellen always was, even back in the day when she was scrounging for opportunities to do stand-up, or if money and fame went straight to her head and turned her into a garbage human being. Would someone please bankroll the Netflix documentary that will answer these questions for me?

*cough* Ronny Cox *Cough*

4 10 hour days seems better than the current system, but as this study shows there’s no real basis for a 40 hour work week anyway, and workers are as productive or more productive with a 32 hour week, if they knew they had a better work/life balance.

The two shows had a ton in common - the nursery/playroom setting, the Nanny character (who is, indeed, only seen from the neck down), the focus on imaginary play, including having the setting appear as whatever the babies are pretending it is.

I always said I’d rather work 4 10-days hour days instead of 5 8-hour days but sounds like they just eliminated a day and kept the other 4 days at 8 hours. Sweet. I hope this sees wider adoption but I suspect I’ll be retired well before it makes its way to the US in any substantial numbers.

Yeah, this is how George W. Bush “won” the 2000 election - despite his Ivy League degrees, his folksy talk painted him as the “guy you’d rather have a beer with” compared with Al Gore, who was clearly more qualified to be President.

there is an excellent book called American Idiot by Charles Pierce that goes into great detail about how America came to see stupidity as a sign of being genuine especially in areas like politics where politicians are always seen as “pulling fast ones” over honest, hard-working Americans. Personally I think it’s an

This will work for him, too. The people who will vote for him are the sort of morons who want their representative to be “just like me”, and me = stone cold stupid. Lost in all the racist garbage the Obamas had to deal with was the fact that they also hated Barack because he was a law professor, and Michelle because
