I definitely think Lullabies is better than Era Vulgaris. It's a totally different beast to Rated R and Songs For The Deaf, but it might have Homme's most complex, well developed songwriting.

The back third or so of Bossanova is the Pixies' low point as far as I'm concerned. Not terrible, just kind of bland. Trompe is full of great bonkers songs.

Lullabies? Disco Volante? Trompe Le Monde? I don't even know where to begin with the wrongness of these opinions.

I find something a bit contrived about the whole LCD Soundsystem finale thing. It's like Murphy was so in love with pop history and the romantic idea of a band existing for a brief moment in time, burning brightly and then burning out, that he felt he simply had to manufacture such a situation for himself. And now

As a brit I find it a bit depressing that the name Scott Walker is apparently more popularly associated in the states with some right wing tit, instead of the world's coolest avant-garde crooner.

That's why I said they should rerecord it. The sound and production is duff, but's songs themselves are vintage stuff for the most part. That Lucky Old Sun is the only Brian solo album that really gets the production right, but the songs weren't quite there.

It's not great and it's so drenched in autotune they sound more like a Beach Boys synth pad Reason plugin than actual human beings. But by my count it has 6 pretty solid tracks on it (the first three and the last).

Embryonic was a really good change in direction so that in itself makes talk about their decline questionable.

They have to be one of the few prog bands (or classic rock bands in general) who put out pretty good records through their whole career. Their 90's and 00's stuff isn't essential, but they never watered themselves down or fell into routine or nostalgia.

This is the dullest opinion in the world.

Good article, but Gentle Giant got a bit of a short thrift. Octopus is one of the best prog albums I've ever heard, a perfect mash up of genres that really shouldn't fit together.

It's true!
