By the title I thought this was going to be about a doctor to porn stars. I was bracing myself for some freaky shit.

Yes. No success has ever come from reading and enjoying fiction. No Siree Bob.
Definitely. Blue Valentine left me sitting there with a deep seated dread for days. I just felt miserable after watching it. It just doesn't give you a break - even a second of levity.
I know it's not Halloween, but, uh... what happened there?
Yeah, you're definitely not the only one. I wrote a long response and erased it, because there's really no point. We're not going to get anywhere good by engaging.

You're not the only one. Don't worry.
HOLD UP.
Goddammit, I did what you said and twittered the "female". This was the first post:
I've never read the book, so I don't have any skin in this game - but given the insane obsession with the book, I'm pretty convinced the movie is going to do well, even if it shouldn't.
We've all been there. It's easy to say something that gets you jumped all over around here - even with the best intentions.
Okay, I'm with you on all of that. Sorry, I misread your first comment.
It's a nice enough idea that only the true blue activists should use the title, but that's not how social change is going to happen. We need men in high places to advocate for us. If we go out of our way to make it a hostile environment for them, why should they stick around? I don't know about you, but I don't like…
I really think we need to encourage more men to be open about their allegiances. Being too uppity about who can say what/when is causing us more problems than it is helping our cause.
This is a really problematic opinion. There are TONS of male feminists who are wonderful allies. By making a statement like this, you're drawing lines about who can hold which opinions. We NEED men to be feminists in order for us to be successful
Don't take it personally. Millions of parents find themselves in similar situations. You're doing the best possible thing by trying to get help while she's still very young.
I hope it's legit, but it seems really off. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the TKAM movie in the making someday soon.
Not to play armchair psychologist, but have you tried taking her to a psychologist. It could be something called Oppositional Defiance Disorder, or something similar.
I was raised in a (Canadian) Baptist church, by a mother who was a Deacon, and I had a wonderful upbringing. I was surrounded by people who were smart, educated, and who chose their faith. They also encouraged critical thinking, which is, I think, the difference maker for a lot of people who are able to be both…
Whatever happened to just cutting it off?
