And unfortunately I think they use they fact that not only do we care, but that we believe they care, as a primary way of bilking us every single time. I wonder now if they aren’t just laughing at us — all the way to their version of a caliphate.

Not surprisingly, I’ve heard similar arguments in relation to healthcare...not wanting to pay for sick people or men not wanting to pay for pregnancy or mammograms or the pill. I’m never going to need a prostate exam but I don’t want other people to die from something I might have to pay a few pennies toward.

Yes! Lots of Asian immigrants in Richarsdon and many Mexican immigrants in north Garland on the Richardson border. In 2016 when I talked to people about voting, the ones who didn’t vote tended to say that they didn’t think their one vote would help the Democrats in such a red state. In my early 20s in Dallas. An older black man on the jury refused to vote guilty for the young black defendant, a boy really. Cops found a baggie of crack near him but not on him. I (a white girl) wasn’t really paying attention to the possibility of corrupt cops but was horrified by the other jurors bullying this man…
