I came to AVClub from io9, when they merged with Gizmodo and it was clear things were heading downhill. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to move it to AVClub, but I think it's more likely that they'll just kill it off - it's been dying for a while now, they're posting a fraction of what they used to and they've

Also: it makes me sad how oblivious the parents seem to have been to the whole dynamic. Minus the mental illness / murder, this kind of drama is super common for teen girls. There was a trio like this in my friend group in high school - the cool one, the old best friend, the shiny new best friend. It was awful for

I remember when I first read about this story, someone had pointed out the similarities to another case - I think it was this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wi….

Don't forget the part where after mindlessly clicking it for 5 min the "show more comments" button magically transforms into "view community discussion" and causes 90% of the comments to disappear.

I'm pretty sure it's as simple as "We were the top dogs, and now someone else is challenging us for the position, so we fight back." I wouldn't call it childish so much as amoral. Power for power's sake.

Ooof, that sounds hard to watch. Do the young men know what's coming when they sign up for this, or is it a surprise? The rest of the movie sounds interesting, but I'll definitely take your advice to show up 10 min late…

When I was a teen I read mostly books for adults, the more challenging the better. But as I got older and my life became more demanding, I started to read more YA. Sometimes you just want a book that's easy and comforting, especially when you have to read in short spurts between other responsibilities. Plus, the older

That's true of stuntwork in general, in my experience. Once you've started a trick, the absolute most dangerous thing you can do is to try and bail.

She's got a passive-aggressive side that's pretty damn cutting, if you know a little about her personal life and pay attention to her lyrics. When she broke up with John Mayer she wrote a song called "Dear John" (subtle!) all about how shitty he was, when Kanye interrupted her at the Grammy's she wrote a song called

That slogan comes from io9, a once-awesome site which was already slowly dying before it got eaten by Gizmodo, and is now just a half-digested lump sitting in its small intestine.

It's still insane to me that they gave that movie a $144 million budget. If they'd spent $50 million like they should have it would be a huge success story with a sequel out next year.

Almost 63 million people voted for Trump. You really believe that entire group is incapable of rational discussion? That's a harsh way to see the world.

Yeah I definitely see the parallels between South Park and the alt-right's outlook, but it's hard for me assign South Park much blame when the height of that show's popularity was almost two decades ago.

You're right, but honestly they should have just cut Vision out of the movie entirely. He's cool, and his introduction is probably the best scene in the movie, but that movie needed to lose a subplot. His presence doesn't really work with the rest of the film - "Creating a sentient robot to protect the earth is bad

Actually as far as I can tell, every Avenger has changed either costume or hairstyle in each movie they appear in. Iron Man never wears the same suit across two movies, Thor's hair changes, even Cap's uniform gets minor tweaks. I don't know why they do this (merchandising?) but it's been really consistent.

If I were a wedding DJ I'd edit it down to just that structure. Short and sweet, gets people on the dance floor and then on to the next thing while the energy's still high.

This sounds like it would be more interesting without the true crime stuff, actually. The whole "he and Pool fought gentrification in Holland, only to be greeted with violent hostility as gentrifiers when they came to Galicia" angle sounds a lot meatier than the mystery aspect.

I don't think it's the portion size that's the problem (we do eat shrimp, after all), it's the fact that small fish tend to come with heads/tails/skin/bones still attached. Americans are squeamish about eating fish that still looks like a fish. Also, most people eat fish for health reasons and stuff that comes in

I miss the subtlety of the book version, though - It takes a few moments for the characters to realize what exactly is strange about the scene in front of them.

Casting Will Smith was a pretty smart call on Disney's part - Robin William's performance is so iconic that you couldn't just cast an unknown and have them do their best Genie impression. It would seem like a lame knock-off. The role needs a big star with a larger-than-life personality, where it's obvious just from
