Uber and Lyft have always wanted people to drive as much as possible - the part-time gig thing is a ruse to prevent them from being subject to regulation and from needing to provide benefits for their full-time workers.

I wouldn’t defend much about the old cabs, apart from the fact that they could earn a decent living. It’s certainly possible to be harshly critical of the predatory tech companies and the ossified businesses they try to disrupt.

This is the state in which several state reps were recalled after voting for mild restrictions after the Aurora theater shooting. There’s even a movement in the NE part to form its own state, mostly to avoid gun restrictions and environmental regulation of oil and gas.

Great point. Israel and Saudi Arabia have never done anything awful that should give Americans pause.

Maybe prove that, or demonstrate probable cause

The guy literally hosted a show on RT before his arrest. Being an actual Russian propaganda host doesn’t really add to your journalistic credibility.

Over a longer period (since 2006) it has been close to 50%, but quite consistent since 2013, and renewables share has continued to increase since then. It’s a more complicated picture than “renewables make your electricity more expensive.” For instance, Texas generated 30% renewable electricity last year at pretty low

I’ve written on algae-derived fuel before, and the consensus seems to be that photobioreactors are actually quite expensive, need to be located next to a constant CO2 source, and require a large amount of their own infrastructure.

Not quite - Germany is a net exporter of electricity. The talking point of importing electricity from France is a misreading of energy buying agreements which route power through German lines to 3rd market countries like Belgium.

Trump is used to not paying his workers

It’s particularly rich because engineering is not science, it’s just applied math. Most engineers never write (or even read) peer reviewed papers or do research of any kind. A political scientist likely has more formal training on how to evaluate research than an engineer.

Engineers are not scientists, they’re more like technicians. Almost no engineers do research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, or learn to evaluate evidence. An engineer has nothing to contribute to a discussion on climate change.

That they think they’re winning is just another pebble on Dunning-Kruger mountain.

A pseudoscience degree? Doctor of Naturopathy or Doctor of Chiropractic come to mind.

It’s a delightful word, but one that’s lost on most people I suspect.

Any time they dive into the comments, they get ruthlessly dragged. They deserve it most of the time, but I get why they avoid them.

To be fair, this part is not the only thing in the bill, and being a sponsor does not mean you have total control over the contents.

Free filing of forms would just replace the forms being mailed in - I wanted to send in my tax forms from abroad to avoid using the postal service, but because I have the foreign exemption form included, the “free file” services would have charged me $50. So now the IRS gets a piece of physical mail, which requires mor

I live abroad, so I don’t have to actually pay anything, but I still have to file. Even though I owe nothing, sending in two forms through the “free file” options would have cost $50, literally just because there is one extra form included. These are forms that basically just say “0" over and over.
