Hmm, I think Shantotto would definitely be in my top 3. As little as I ACTUALLY remember about the characters in FFXI, I remember loving all of them. Ajido-Marujido cutting a swath through Castle O' will always be one of my favourite memories of FFXI story.

Ah, I can't argue with that. Membership numbers make me cringe. There really isn't a more efficient solution (there are so many of me I have lost count) but there are more amicable approaches to obtaining our barcodes than a lot of larger companies will humour.
