Wilder was also a happy accident. Brooks had casted Gig Young as The Waco Kid. He was an alcoholic who decided to sober up for the film. During the first day of shooting he had DT’s so bad they had to send him to the hospital. Wilder ended up taking the role, and the rest is history.
