I don’t think the issue is one of “two wrongs don’t make a right.” I think the issue is “don’t pull it out if you ain’t gonna use it.”

Jim Crow was far worse than Tucker Fucking Carlson and the Civil Rights Movement took it on without resorting to going to people’s homes. It kinda worked out well for us, overall, I think.
This dude is going to go on national TV and tell his viewers that he was “attacked” by a “mob” outside of his home. That he and his family “feared for their lives” and his viewers are going to believe every word.
When the only argument you can make is semantic, you’re not really making an argument at all.
“Stop coming to the Root then.”
This isn’t hyperbole. They made a threat. It’s not an exaggeration to say that, because it’s objectively true.
Combine it with their other statement: “you are not safe.”
I’ve argued that because there was no clear implication of violence (which in legal terms means ‘unambiguous’) it was protected speech.
Then why are you insisting on having an argument with me about something I never said?
No, because the phrase “we know where you sleep at night” has a very specific cultural context. It is directly intended to incite fear of violence.
No, I never said any such thing. I still don’t know what you’re arguing about.
I don’t recall saying this threat was criminal, so I don’t know what you’re arguing about.
First, it’s a threat of protest
I see. So it’s okay to resort to threats of violence as long as we leave ourselves a margin of plausible deniability.
They can say whatever they want, and it will be bullshit. They knew the threat they were making, and so do you. Pretending to be dumb just makes you look.....well, really dumb.
At statement of fact that, in context, contains a clearly implied threat. Don’t play dumb.
Y’all didn’t see MLK Jr. and Ralph Abernathy bum rushing Bull Connor at his house because somebody would have either gotten bit by police dogs, shot or both.

The free exercise of speech is a constitutional right. So what if it’s in front of his house?
This does nothing but feed into conservatives’ “we’re the REAL victims” mentality. As loathsome as Tucker Carlson is, this is well across the line.
