It's not "your own", though. It's your child's. Their body is the one that grows the placenta; it's their genes, etc. It's expelled from the uterus precisely because it's a foreign body and would trigger an immune attack if it stayed in.

If I can just step in and correct a common misconception, it's not actually your placenta, it's the fetus'. The placenta is not grown by your body, but by his/hers; its genome is the fetus', not yours.

I've already explained what an investment is. Investments create value. What the fuck value is created if I buy a piece of paper that says "Apple" at $120, and then sell it next year for $140? None whatsoever - all that's happened is a transfer of wealth from the subsequent owners of that stock to the previous ones.

Well, it depends. Are you buying it because the restaurant is going to share its profits with you, or are you buying that share with the hope of selling it someone else, next year? One of those is an investment. The other is speculation - gambling on the future asset price.

Regardless of how it passed down the line, you still own a piece of Google.

In reality if most overweight people simply started walking and swapped diet soda out for regular soda, they would already start dropping a considerable amount of fat.

I'm have my BS in Finance, Concentrating in Banking and Real Estate. I constantly take personal finance seminars.

Ok, fine. Your stock is up 20% this year when you decide to sell. You bought at X price, and sold at X + 20% price, and made 20%.

You're talking about trading not investing.

No one has to lose for you to win you just invest in companies and share in there growth if they do.

I bet my friend $250 that the Green Bay Packers NFL team will have a good season this year, with terms such that my winnings scale depending on the point spread (somehow.) You purchase a share of the Green Bay Packers Football ($250 a pop) hoping that, next year, you'll be able to sell the stock for more money because

Buying stocks, index funds, etc. isn't gambling, exactly, but it's also not exactly investing.

As an Italian-American, I can tell you that it's basically our version of "nigra."

I think it's only a "selfie" if you, you know, take it yourself. Otherwise it's just a "picture."

Wow, I guess the sheriff was really grateful for the name of that app!

It's not strictly unreasonable to consider an in-progress crime an "emergency", like if you looked out your window and saw someone carrying your things out of your garage. That is, you're not in any immediate danger, insurance will ultimately cover the replacement, but pretty much nobody (including the 911 dispatcher)

If a police background check is all it takes to screen out rapists, then why is there any job where we don't do that?

It's hardly an "idea"; the man assaulting the store owner to steal cigars is known to be Mike Brown.

Mike Brown's cigarillos—"stolen," not "shoplifted"

At least none of these people stole bikes. Bike thieves should be shot on sight.
