Actually, it's a matter of public record that he came in to shoot new material and "fix" HALLOWEEN 2 when producers were unhappy with what the original director turned in.

As the guy who actually likes spaghetti westerns here, I'm EXTREMELY pleased he's decided to direct it (his earlier announcement as scriptwriter already sparked hope that this would be more than just a cash-in).

Thinking about HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, i've always thought that Carpenter's plan to turn HALLOWEEN into a seasonal anthology series would have worked if he'd basically started it immediately, by making THE FOG as "HALLOWEEN II: THE FOG".
