For what it’s worth, every time I leave and come back to the game, I ask for some tips at /r/elitedangerous and get tons of helpful advice. One of the truly great reddit communities.

I’m not sure what causes it - maybe a set point time on how long they’re standing still after the chute drop, but I’ve come across 7+ AFKs in an open field before and couldn’t do anything to them, and then later they died to playzone.

They’ll die anyway when the playzone changes, so, yes?

Weird. I’ve played several times (not as recently as the new patch) where I’ve just ended up in a field full of AFKs and shot at them/ran them over/punched them and nothing would happen to them.
