It’s a good thing that they are targeting different consumer bases then.

TO BE CLEAR, since I’m getting a lot of replies.
I do not dispute that the other solutions are significantly less accessible to the average consumer. I just do not think that the Oculus and Vive are going to be “killed” by a solution that can’t even enter the same market (PC).

Won’t disagree with you there! I’m eager to see how it stacks up, and how Sony works around the camera limitations.

Difference is PSVR and Oculus/Vive aren’t targeting the same market whereas VHS and Betamax were. PSVR won’t kill PC virtual reality. The fact that there has been so much industry (not just the gaming industry) buy-in on the Vive and Oculus is proof of that already.

Hahaha. Fair point. The nerdy guy (forgot the actor’s name) from Tropic Thunder wasn’t kidding about porn :P

I don’t blame you at all for that!

The PSVR comes with an external processing box to give the PS4 some more oomph for VR.

I don’t disagree that there is a much lower barrier cost of entry.

And the general public will probably buy the PSVR, and that’s okay. I’m not stating that the PSVR will be terrible, or that most people won’t buy it, or that even some won’t enjoy it.

I don’t disagree. But it’s not going to be an Oculus/Vive killer.

Have you ever actually *used* Playstation Move before? The camera can’t motion track a controller it can’t see. There may be some improvements in the tracking in PSVR and that will only remain to be seen, but you’re limited by how much that camera can see sitting from your TV stand.

Whereas both the Vive and Oculus

Different experiences, different requirements. The Vive and Oculus are still quite a bit of a different animal than PSVR.

Visual and experience fidelity will need to be compared. Many reviews of all 3 at industry meetups have stated the sense of presence is still firmly in the advantage of the Vive and Oculus over PSVR. Will be interesting to see how PSVR plays out though.

Doubtful. The tracking solutions on both the Oculus and the Vive are way more advanced than what the PS Eye camera can offer.

The same distressed, plaid-colored cloth?

No I totally agree. But we’ve seen perfect examples of companies who have every idea of what to expect (Blizzard and WoW) screw it up the second time (Diablo III).

It had a bit of a smaller player base since it was definitely gearing towards more “hardcore” players at launch. But I’ve seen smaller MMOs struggle on launch day, and it did fairly well.

Wildstar had a fairly non-problematic launch, IIRC, at least for me it did.

Well this is a stinking shame. Playing the Fable Legends beta, it looked *gorgeous* and certainly played fun enough on PC. What a rotten outcome :(

To be fair - there are ALWAYS evangelists claiming everyone is going to hell picketing outside of Dallas Comic Con during the Fan Days spinoffs at Irving Convention Center. I’ve found that the main Dallas conventions (AnimeFest, Dallas Comic Con at the Dallas Convenction Center, and A-Kon) don’t seem to have this
