The smirk when he sad “what’s that” to the “I know what you really are” followed by the sort of nervous energy afterwards was perfect. There’s the bravado of the older Solo with the insecurity of youth. I’m actually really looking forward to this now.

What a stupid, unnecessary comment. I also seriously doubt that a female Doctor would offend the overly-sensitive conservative dullards more than the numerous people of color and openly homosexual characters presented within the show since its reboot.

“one of many storylines from the show’s classic era than never got made”

The whole DS9 and Benjamin Sisco’s creation always messed with my head, and he was and still is my fav Star Trek character. Just imagine waking up next to man who says he is your husband and a little baby you had no agency in making. Then when you think about the details it gets creeper.

There is a big difference between LotR’s runtimes and 2 hours 10 minutes. 2h10 is barely above average for a movie.

It is hard to believe that King is confused about all the attention that the tween orgy scene has received when the novel itself spends so much energy to buffer the reader’s reaction.

There’s a lot of people pointing out it’s not out of line to take this approach, and I agree, but this particular set of encyclopedic facts could very well have been pared down. M. Lussier assures us there’s a tidbit important to later plot, and I guess it makes the most sense to bury it in a monologue like this one,

Somehow this comment helped me realize where I’ve seen Missy before, in another show. Now I know why she seems so familiar as well as likable.

If the actual story they go with is better than your version, I’ll eat my hat. That’s cool.

I mean, the Master’s side is, technically, her own side. But yeah, it’s far from certain she’s going to betray the Doctor. At least, no more certain than it usually is.

Agreed. That nonsense doesn’t work now. If a show doesn’t grab me after a few episodes, I have literally dozens of other things on my queue to go to.

Does Jason Isaacs ever look comfortable? Does any casting director ever think, “I want a comfortable, laid-back guy to play this character, a little like Jeff Bridges playing the Dude... Hey, how about Jason Isaacs?!”

People seem to forget that TNG was pretty much the only genre show on at the time and coasted off decades of goodwill from fans that were so excited to see any new Star Trek on tv that they could have done anything and it would have even popular.

“He liked the experience, found everyone receptive to his input but he was keenly aware that he just wasn’t going to have the kind of control he had running his own theatre company.”

Oh, no, I agree — and it’s clear that Disney is employing the same strategies for building and maintaining the MCU on the Star Wars movies. Nobody should imagine that it’s an avenue for auteurs or even fans-turned-directors (which would arguably mean 95% of all filmmakers under the age of 50). There is a very narrow,

“Free” is a relative term in this context, though. I’d imagine doing various commercial tie-ins is just a boilerplate clause in many, if not all, of the superhero actor contracts. I suspect he gets the same amount of money regardless of whether he does 1 or 50 tie-in ads. Part and parcel of a multi-pic deal i’d guess!

Agreed about Discovery getting less slack than TNG, especially since it seems a large contingent of fans (or maybe just a small, reaalllly vocal contingent) wrote it off before the first trailer ever dropped.

Not endorsing/handwaving his attitudes, just some interesting stuff to think about.

None of those things have touched Offred’s life, so they haven’t influenced her story. There’s a pretty thick line between “worldbuilding” and “infodumping,” and Margaret Atwood stays on the right side of it.

Uh, people? I think it’s safe to say a God of Knowledge has a lot of it...!
