I would sooner sit through a long movie and be entertained, and have the story told correctly than have parts cut out.

Director Peter Jackson has confirmed that the first Hobbit movie will be 2 hours and 40 minutes

Star Andrew Lincoln discusses how Rick Grimes is getting more ruthless and less heroic with every episode

Even if this movie makes Transformers: Dark of the Moon look like Citizen Kane, breaking up the increasingly bad bromance between Depp and Tim Burton for a while is an automatic one thumb up.

I think Deepa Mehta would agree with you. IIRC, she's said the project was originally conceived as two films but the simple reality was that one was difficult enough to finance and produce. :)

It's also within the realms of possibility that Hollywood might just be lifting its game (slightly) when it comes to lazy racist tropes, without the malign influence of "our Chinese masters". Hell, it's been years since anyone green-lit a Fu Manchu movie - and YMMV, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Also totes

but JMS is very liberal, and there's a lot of condemnation of conservative thought and policies.

I totally understand that our Chinese Masters don't want to make the villain Chinese...

Seriously, I'm not sure whitewashing a role that looks like a mega-mash up of every Yellow Peril Fu Manchurian trope every is such a bad thing. IMO and YMMV, of course.

Non of the previous Bonds look this old, or world weary.

Wow, he looks old already. So they are going for that, eh?

The only part of A View to A Kill I can watch sober is Grace Jones topping a visibly... um, emasculated Roger Moore. If only May Day had been in a movie worthy of the awesomeness that is Grace, she could have been an iconic Bond bad girl.

Family-friendly doesn't mean you necessarily remove complex, difficult, or twisted themes, but rather tone down or disguise the gore, language, violence, sexuality, and nudity.

We are not going to handle the politics in a heavy-handed fashion.

Well, I very seldom say this but Midnight's Children really deserved to be about five times longer than it was. I believe the BBC had a mini-series in development for years, and I don't know why it fell over. It couldn't have been any worse than the tediously over-wrought and bloodless antics of boring white people P

Who knows? Rule #1: Moffat lies. :)

I once attended a panel discussion with Annie Proulx and she said this: "Write about what you know" is terrible advice to writers. Go find out what you don't know, and write about THAT. :)

It's her mother's obsession with keeping her isolated, her absolute obsessions with sex or sexuality as "bad", and her abuse that leads Carrie to being a plain looking teen.

No matter how original and novel the story is in this installment, it still is a Bond film and as such, we really kind of know how things will work out.

Pshaw... that's totally Bond's thing. Half-arsed cover - blown in about thirty seconds. Just shoot in the bad guy in the head and spend the last hour or so of the movie shagging, boozing then shagging some more? Bah... too simple. :)
