Haha, yeah, there sure seemed to be a lot of them. You just can't trust anyone anymore. After dispatching the gunmen, I would usually let them go if their pleas for clemency moved me. But once in a while I'd be feeling peevish or fed up and decide that their deception could not go unpunished.

Yeah, I think flashcards are one good way to study and remember kanji, but I would also recommend that you practice writing them often so that hopefully the strokes will come to you more naturally. Of course, it'll also help to read sample texts containing the new kanji that you've learned.
