You're not making sense. Even back when they only had 3,5,6,7, and (briefly) 8, the even numbers have always been coupe and odd, sedans. Then again I don't really care whether they call the coupe a 3 or 4, unlike some on here who get their panties in a bunch for losing "their" beloved M3 nameplate forever.

The plain jane 996s were unfortunately also stuck with the M96 which had several problems, worst of which being the Intermediate shaft failure, which would kill the entire engine when it fails. There's also RMS leak, but that at least doesn't grenade the engine right away :P

Still way better than the E30 M3. I see a E30 M3 for around 20k that's within driving distance from me. I also see a E46 M3 for about the same price. Unfortunately I'm not that keen on buying either :D

Uh no. The half-assed S52 is much more reliable than the balls-to-the-wall S54, which to this day still need to be babied lest its VANOS decide to take the engine with it when it fails. Barely distinguishable? The suspension is all unique to M3, and vader seats. The car is infinitely more reliable and durable than E46…

But doesn't bare aluminum rust though? I know aluminum rust would mean a natural protection layer, but I've never had any experience with bare aluminum to know how long they can last in the elements.
