Also, in every alternate scenario that the Bernie camp presents for candidate selection- Hillary still handily wins. Unlike most of his supporters, he was alive when the DNC implemented the superdelegates and have seen why they were needed.

A structure where party leaders have a say in their party’s choice of nominee is not ‘screwing anyone over’, unless you’re losing and need someone to blame.

It only ‘arouses suspicion’ if you don’t understand the process.
