Good on you man!  I’m aiming for debt freedom (short of a mortgage) in the next 3 years.  Again, I’m incredibly lucky that I picked a profession that allows that, but it’s not at all the norm.

Maybe I read your comment wrong, but anyone retiring in 2008 who still had their 401k invested in the market probably wasn’t a very savvy investor or actively sabotaged their own account.  If you knew you were going to retire in 2008, why would you have your investment account in a volatile asset like stocks?
