I see you’re getting a lot of harsh responses to this, and I don’t get it. Having separate accounts is perfectly fine as long as there’s transparency there. In my marriage, we each have separate checking accounts and one joint savings account.
Once when I answered the phone at work, the lady on the other end said, “You sound like a little girl! Are you SURE you’re old enough to be working??”
Yup. Per etiquette, a gift is NEVER required for any event, except perhaps a bridal or baby shower, as that is specifically a gift-giving event (i.e., “showering the couple with gifts”).
I just listened to that episode too, and found the whole thing strange. She paid for an impoverished girl’s private education and bought her mom a car to help her get to work. And then she hired the mom to be her personal laundry woman, which is nice I guess, since the mom was having trouble holding a job. But they…
Yes, she has said some harshly worded things against Islam in general, but she advocates specifically against the type of Islam she grew up with — under which she suffered horrific abuse. Recently she’s tempered her language and wrote a whole book about how people should support moderate/reform Islam.
This. Jezebel could easily write an article called “The Demonization of Ayaan Hirsi Ali” that would be equally interesting, if not more so.
I think it depends on how close you are to the person. You have to know they pretty well to determine if they would appreciate it, or if they will think you’re condescending. And you always have to do it in private; never in front of others.
For the tip question, I usually tip if there’s a jar out for cash, though usually not 20% (as I would for a sit-down meal). But if it’s a “suggested” tip on an ipad, I’ll usually skip it, unless it’s a place I frequent often and they’ve done a special order for me.
A priest spends a lot of time in the confessional; there’s no way every priest hasn’t tooted multiple times in there. But if you’re still worried, just remind yourself that hell isn’t real anyway.
N0, it’s never appropriate to plan a party for yourself when the main purpose is to get gifts. If someone generously offers to gift you the planning of a shower, your involvement should pretty much be limited to asking them how many people they can afford to host, and then giving them a guest list that doesn’t…
I feel like the answer here is dependent on two questions. First, was your husband ever in danger of dying? And how far away do all these family members live? If they live more than an hour or so away, I think they’re entirely off the hook for visiting, unless he was at some point at imminent risk of dying and they…
I just want to recommend Isa Chandra’s vegan cookbooks, especially Isa Does It. Her recipes are fantastic and very easy. For dinner tonight I’m having leftovers from a dill stew with rosemary dumplings - her recipe. It’s amazing. Her butternut squash alfredo is possibly the most delicious thing I’ve ever had.
This just makes me miss the photo map feature on Instagram. RIP, map of my travels.
And are you incredibly stupid? This comment is three years old, so yes, I guess I was young then compared to now.
Ughhhhhhhh come on
If you have a bidet, do you use toilet paper to dry yourself afterward, or a washable towel? I’d be open to using a bidet if it truly is better for the environment, but I imagine you actually use about the same amount of toilet paper anyway as there’s much more to dry than a non-bidet toilet session.
I know that feeling. I ended up getting a dress from a designer’s “rehearsal dinner collection” as opposed to their actual “bridal collection.” It’s white and lacy and tea-length, and it was just over $300 after tax. Plus since it’s not floor-length, the only alteration I need is sewing cups into the bodice (it’s…
Your sister sounds like she’s doing everything right! Just the fact that she’s concerned about the price of the dress puts her light-years ahead of some other people...
