It makes sense to have covers if the chairs are old/ugly, but I just cannot fathom the reason for the knot/fabric train on each chair.

There are all sorts of charities out there. This one happens to help rescue dogs. If you're interested in helping homeless people, I suggest you either volunteer at your local homeless shelter/soup kitchen or donate your money to a homeless organization you support.

I don't know of any organizations specific to Michigan that will fight this, but in general both Planned Parenthood Federation and the Guttmacher Institute are great at promoting abortion and reproductive rights.
