I tend to agree with you about the bottom end but direct injectors, Turbos, and the possible coking on the top on the intake valve may make them less reliable then port fuel injected NA engines.

Screw turbo, just fix the engine dead spot, bore or stroke it to 2.2 to 2.5 liters, get 20-30 more hp and sales will pickup again. The car just needs to catch up the ND Miata.
