Man, I love 'Cherry Pie'. No shame. It's catchy, it's rocks, and it doesn't take itself to seriously. I cherish my Nirvana and Sonic Youth records like a good Gen Xer should, but I'll always have time for this song.
What the hell is with all the negative comments here? This woman survived a toxic childhood environment, battled debilitating mental illness, and is now making something worthwhile out of her experiences instead of fading into obscurity or burning out as a drug addict. If you have a problem with this, don't click on…
I agree with the others that this album seems like it was released just to have some Jack White 'product' out this year. If I'm not mistaken, with the exception of 2002 and 2013, White has released one album a year since 1999.
I just wanted to comment on how amazing Jewel looked and that her bit killed.
Someone should give her a mockumentary sitcom about a washed-up Lilith Fair folk singer who's all sweetness-and-light on stage but secretly a power-mad bitch. I'd watch that.
F*** Yeah, Against Me!
I have to admit, I'm a late convert. I bought Searching For A Former Clarity because I loved the song 'Don't Lose Touch'. The rest of the album wasn't in the same style, but I liked it enough; I just filed it away and drifted to other bands.
Then I read about Laura's transition and I thought, "Oh…
Does anybody else find it ridiculously appropriate that Captain America knows the secret to giving the perfect high five?
I think Tim's first impression was right, and I'm still with him: This whole Rebirth endeavour reeks of flop sweat, and I'm sad that my fellow DC fans have been pandered to so successfully. It's the same writers and editors on these books, just shuffled around. Lip service paid to the idea of 'positivity' can't magic…
Yeah there was definitely some of that, plus it was seen as him jumping on the garage rock revival bandwagon ala The Strokes et al.
Snark aside, I'm excited for this. As I'm usually excited for any new Ryan Adams material. I own all his albums except 1989, and I actually prefer the rockier ones. I'm one of the few who genuinely didn't understand why Rock N Roll got such a bad reception back in the day. Of course Love Is Hell was better, but then Lo…
For a moment there I thought you wrote P.O.D.' and almost chocked.
I just listened to that and it was a rad. Headed to Apple Music now to check out his other stuff. Thanks!!
I've been meaning to check out Death Grips for a while now.
Finally got around to listening to that Dalek track. I haven't heard of them before, but that beat is AMAZING! Reminds me of old school industrial rock. Thanks for that!
Dude, we must have some kind of Sense8 brain-sharing thing going on, because I just found a PM Dawn cd a month ago and I love it! Makes me want to check out the rest of that 'conscious rap' seen from the late80s/early90s, beyond De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest.
I think I have that Orange Country soundtrack somewhere,…
I agree. But it's hard to find any conversation about rock music online that doesn't use some combination of those phrases.
I remember making a mixtape that had rockers and ballads on either side. Great minds…
Hell yeah! This is the first contemporary album I bought, at 16, after having made my way though my parents vinyl collection. I fell in love with the sound of 'Who You Are' on the rare instance I listened to the radio. Strangely in retrospect, I returned the CD, because my diet of Van Morrison, Pink Floyd and reggae…
For me it's 'Who You Are' (that melody! and the first PJ song I fell in love with), or 'Given To Fly' (for it's glorious chorus) or 'Yellow Ledbetter' (for that guitar solo).
Or…actually, I could go on and on and on…
Confession time: I mostly like rap rock - by which I DON'T mean nu metal, but Rage Against The Machine, early Faith No More, some Public Enemy, some Beastie Boys, the 'All About The Benjamins' remix, etc - more than I like most modern 'pure' hip-hop. I like the way Golden Age rappers rapped on the beat instead of…
Three words:
Return. To. Oz.
I have to disagree with the headline. Based on the ONE time I viewed this film, in class when I was 12 years old 24 years ago, this film was WAAAAAAAAY too intense. I've never seen it since. Just that screen shot of the witch with her eyes lit up gave me aflashback just now to the night I spent curled up on the floor…
