The problem is why would any baron keep to such a ban? Guns are popular because anyone can use them and they allow you to kill at a greater distance with less risk for yourself. I can't see people willingly giving up such an advantage, especially in pseudo-medieval feudalistic society.

IIRC, in the books he finds out her death after the battle ends. I imagine they decided to do it this way on the show for more drama. It bugged me how they did it, but I think because I'm a book reader, it had less of an impact on me, but yeah I can see why some would see it at fridging.

I think that's pretty realistic. Uhtred would be in his early 20s and most men in that demographic have had at least 3 partners.
