“Typhoons” even in Kanto are super weak, anything north of Kanto is a mild tropical storm (I know that is still technically a typhoon) and passes through super quickly, usually after already crossing Honshu. Certainly no comparison to anything that hits Kyushu or the Ryukyus.

It’s far from the affected flooding areas.  The Ryukyus are used to getting really powerful typhoons, usually get a few every year.

Fukushima doesn’t get typhoons, this is 3-4 hours by airplane to the south.

You would think so, but there sure are a lot of counterexamples to say otherwise.

That’s a really wonderful story!  I’m glad the experience turned out to be so memorable.

If there was a lack of evidence, why bring charges in the first place?

Apparently the team has visited the cave many times and was just caught unaware when the cave suddenly flooded due to heavy rain.

Nah, I got a pair of math degrees, doing science and not quants but doing well for myself. He’ll do alright doing what he loves.

America-mura is not really an expat place, and it’s not all that American. Honestly the whole Nanba/Shinsaibashi/Nippombashi area seems to be like 50% foreign tourists these days anyway.

Yes, I remember reading earlier that they were charging an hourly fee to play.  Can’t find the link right now.

Hannity LOVES the poors!  He finds them tasty!

And your evidence for this being a miscarriage of justice is....?  I’ll agree it certainly COULD be but there’s no compelling (heck, even not compelling) evidence to suggest he did not do this, only his word.  So why go to bat on this particular case, of the millions of people who have been convicted of a crime?

Prime membership on Amazon JAPAN is no question the best deal in tech. t’s only 3900 yen a year (about $35 US right now), includes basically all the things that Amazon US does such as Amazon Video, and if the item you are looking for is in stock at the distro center near me, I usually get same day shipping for free.

For my counterpoint, let me present 42-year old Japanese pro baseball player Kazuya Fukuura.

Well, there’s still a hell of a lot of pressure to take that overtime if you want to or not, depending on company/situation. But yeah, I was a bit shocked first time I heard that it’s possible to get paid overtime as a salaried worker, though.

Maybe.  Expats outside of finance don’t really seem to work a lot of long hours, at least not more than they would in the US.

I’m talking salaried workers.  I don’t know of many salaried jobs that get paid overtime in the US (any?) but most do in Japan.

There are good jobs and bad jobs in Japan! Most are perfectly fine with good benefits and good work-life balance.

You’d be shocked at how many people in Japan do nothing all day in the office.

I regularly had to work 100+ hours a WEEK at my old job in the US (it was field work, and paid overtime).  It was actually 70 hours a week minimum (7 days a week work).
