OK, now I get you. You'd rather such critical thought be applied to music that is more worthwhile. It's a type of bullying, recalling music we all hated then and still hate now. That's sorta valid.

Everything is always awesome all the time for everybody! Make it real simple and never question it.

"Reggaeton is a thing I've heard of."

"I'm saying that there's inherent value in crafting something that a broad swathe of people will enjoy"

The answer is 1958.
Who was born then?
Madonna.
No arguments.

Same thing happened decades earlier with Hall & Oates. *wink*

Little value to me in other people earning large amounts of money. Yes, definitely.

"Worse" doesn't have to be proved. "As bad as" is plenty good enough for me.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't just dislike Limp Bizkit. I dislike Imagine Dragons just as much.

There is little value in aiming at the common denominator, besides the thickness of one's pocket. Joining the swath is just another way of giving up on yourself.

Nah. Earworms are like pimples.

Chris Martin is just a generation's Billy Joel.
The punchline to many a good joke, decades from now, and viciously defended by the types of people that will keep Republicans in power.

Collective Soul had a couple really good songs and seemed like they were gonna be the next U2 at some point.

And worry not. All the songs right now that you really love are really pissing off a lot of people, too.

To be honest, I'd probably been giving the title to each year for a couple of years prior to 1997, and I've just been passing it on from year-to-year ever since.

I looked back at my notes for 1997…David Bowie had his 50th birthday. Joni Mitchell was reunited with the daughter she'd given up for adoption when she was a young woman. Michael Hutchence died by, um, misadventure. Bill Berry left R.E.M. Fleetwood Mac reunited. Nothing on Notorious B.I.G.

" These albums have endured long past their less distinguished, often more successful contemporaries"

Get offa my lawn and under your school-desk, young'un!

The AV Club? I had a nice tuna sandwich there once.

Seems like wishful thinking on your part.

Hand me that ratchet, doofus. You gotta be good for something.
