Because Asian-Americans have dubbed it so.
Because Asian-Americans have dubbed it so.
For someone who seems to have a real problem with appropriation, domination, and supremacy, using “America says it’s offensive so that trumps what the rest of the world thinks” as an argument is pretty strange.
I don’t use the word. I am an American, and a true liberal, and I go along with the conventions of our country. That said, I don’t think it’s offensive, either.
True.
Christ.
In America. In other parts of the world, it isn’t. And appearances to the contrary, we don’t rule the world. We don’t get to dictate what everyone finds offensive.
I’m not talking about racist stereotypes. I’m talking about fictional cities. K’un-Lun isn’t an Asian city, it’s fictional, and you haven’t even seen what Marvel is doing with it yet. All you know about it is what a couple of the monks look like, what Davos looks like, and that Danny Rand is the Iron Fist. That’s…
Latin America is the name given to 19 countries south of the United States. A name given to a general geographic area. It is not, itself, the name of a country, it is not listed on some register of nations. It’s just what we call a region. And we call people from that region Latinos and Latinas.
Doesn’t matter what it’s based on. It’s not literally an Asian city, it’s fictional, and the creators can do whatever they want with it.
So in a world of perfect media, a characters like Rand and Wiing wouldn’t exist, because creators and writers would not create or write them?
in a fictional Asian city
Let’s start with a brief explanation of the difference between a “stereotype” and “appropriation.”
“Within about three minutes of watching Chris, as soon as he kicked one of those lemmings, I went, ‘Okay. That’s cool.’” Russell said.
What do I want... I want 15 years of no Skywalkers or Solos. Expand into other characters. And then after 15 years, a Skywalker or Solo heir rears his or her head and creates some drama. I’d be okay with that.
Unless his arms and legs are going to be flapping like a goddamn hummingbird, he’s going to have a really hard time treading water in metal armor.
“Sir. He was murdered by a shadow. A shadow with the face of Stannis Baratheon.”
You know what I want from Corellia...? Earth. I want it to look like Earth. A bit more sci-fi/futuristic of course - give us some spaceports and things like that, but basically... Earth. Because a planet with actual range hasn’t really been done. Naboo was pretty close. But it was sparse. It looked like there was one…
All we’ve imagined about the young Han will be difficult to top in reality.
Are you serious right now?
Really? Crabs wear heavy metal armor? The kind that, you know, sinks?
