Since Gangs of New York, every Scorsese film has been made for 80+ million dollars with the exception of Silence. They have all done well at the box office but they have been incredibly pricey ventures with the exception of Silence.

One Rolling Stones song I don't think he has used is Paint It Black. I always felt that was a perfect song that fit in a Scorsese montage.

I thought Andrew Garfield in Silence gave the best lead performance of the year. Amy Adams also deserved a nomination for Arrival. Also on Silence, I thought many of the Japanese actors deserved award nominations for their work.

It also struck me how Robert De Niro's character might be one of Scorsese's most moral characters which I realize isn't saying much. In the film, he never actually commits an act of violence nor develops an addiction. He's not flawless for sure but at the end, he achieves a level of peace that most Scorsese characters…

I'm not sure I would go that far but it is pretty close. Mean Streets is still my favorite Scorsese gangster/crime film.
