“Larry views ‘tip jars’ as tantamount to begging, so I hope he pays his employees a really high hourly wage or better yet, a salary.”

Does Gillian Jacobs only play old students?

Paul McCartney’s 9/11 song eats videos like this for breakfast.

This seems really premature. He’s got a huge following and is under pressure to “stay relevant” but it’s been like a week! What’s he going to do next week?

I haven’t watched this show and didn’t realize the popes didn’t share scenes. This is the Billions model, with two huge stars that only meet in the finale, so 90% of the show can be filmed around the stars’ schedules.

That’s right! I had forgotten. I was thinking more of the “now here’s the Church Lady’s niece”-type setup.

Great interview! I know this is a boring comment, but we complainers have an obligation to make known when we like something. More Random Roles (and not on video) please!

A guest star imitating a main character seems pretty dated; it was a staple of 90s sitcoms and SNL skits.

This guy is always a punchline but he’s actually on track for one of the most successful records in Hollywood history. He already has Oscars for writing and producing (“best picture”) and with luck could win for directing, and with much more luck, acting. He’ll have beaten Warren Beatty in every category.

Why didn’t we get a review of Ilana Glazer’s special?

Hustlers was better than OK. I don’t know why it was even considered in the mix for Oscars. It’s very similar to that Kevin Spacey blackjack movie, an interesting real life caper that wasn’t even going for anything Oscar worthy.

The Third Amendment only applies during peacetime, which is never, so the the U.S. Army actually can move into your house whenever they wish.

This series was much more interesting than I thought it would be. I was really surprised by the stories behind some of the films. I apparently have no ability to discern a low budget independent from a major studio production. I would not have thought Dirty Dancing came from outside the studio system.

If you’re a great essayist, people will pretend to like your novels.

The first person on this list was convicted by Pennsylvania, not the United States. The president can only pardon people for crimes against the United States. I didn’t bother to read the rest.

This is great. Random Roles is the best feature on AVClub and I’m happy it’s back in this format.

This kind of character design has only worked once on Fox, with King of The Hill, a modest hit (and great show). All the other successful comedies use an exaggerated, giant-eyed character design: Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers.

A great Simpsons episode can have something to say, but this entire episode felt like it was adapted from an old Slate article. The message overwhelmed the story, and the message was “man, the future, I don’t know...”

I cannot believe in 2020 we’re still debating the merits of the Equal Rights Amendment.” It wasn’t a debate about the merits, it was a debate about extended a time limit that already ran out.

Maybe the Best Song category needs some kind of limitation, like the song needs to be diagetic or sung/performed on screen. And the award shouldn’t be given if there are no strong nominees. Giving an award to the best song a studio played over the credits just because they also own a record label and want to cross
