Although quick, after her pining over Lord Snotbot's contract, I think that training her as a Dominatrix was the only way to go with her character. She can't just go and work at McDonalds for the rest of her life. She has to contribute. Its the only reasonable way she can pull her weight around the brothel with how

Thank you so bad for asking - no I haven't - I'm waiting until this series is finished and then I plan to. But feel free to grey box away for others who have!!!

Yes - anti-science, as well as the fact that any female doctors are now Martha's or colony workers im sure. Home births are often religiously motivated and I wonder if the mutant babies are a factor too. Easier to hide them with home births so as not to blame multiple mutant babies born to different HM's and the same

I had thought that her snarkiness here and there was an example of these micro-power moves that the handmaidens slowly learn that they have - like when the one-eyed HM has the baby and now can "do whatever she wants" bc she's proven she can give birth to a healthy baby.
After Joy explains the importance of her good

While I do agree for the most part with the show runners continual stretching of our suspension of disbelief to its limits, I think we also have to remember that June is our narrator and the other characters don't have the benefit of knowing her true self and inner beliefs, fears and desires. Not only do the Commander

I'm surprised that everyone is so caught up with this lack of racism thing. You KNOW that the PC police would have been up in arms about the lack of diversity REGARDLESS of the original text. C'mon people.. this is a case of damned if u do, damned if u don't.

Yes - just the same as the Commander would throw in some words of greeting or thanks in Spanish - so would the delegates know how to respond to weirdo cult language.

Is it that they aren't allowed to read or write at all? And is it all women? Perhaps they are allowed to read and write minutiae but any literature or written discourse of importance or danger to society is not allowed? After all, every book that was in the garbage seemed like feminist literature. Does this mean that

In the beginning June and Luke were fleeing to Canada no? So we do know that there are countries that are "safe" and don't have these practices.

I also thought this was part of the flashback but it does make sense with his "I forgot.." comment. I'll have to look again - but I don't think he was wearing the white scarf with the uniform at the banquet - so I think it was a flashback - her first day of doing nothing at home and being restless and not ready to

My Eye-dar went off as well when he handed her the pad. Why not write down her message himself if he knows she's in danger? Also if the husband knows where she is how would any type of message help or make a difference? Either save her - send a message TO her or leave her alone. "Dear Luke, so … uh… thought u were

I totally heard that as well - fortunately watching on Hulu via Roku means I can skip back a scene and it automatically provides the closed captioning for the last line of dialogue. Idk if it's Roku or Hulu doing it - but it's awesome. I would never have understood her reaction without it.
