I drove past my old Chairman’s while out for an afternoon of twisties in my painstakingly ‘refurbished’ 1986 944. He was out, so I stopped to say Hi. I had just washed it, and it was looking awesome.

Yes, that is wrong.

Much better options with superior build-quality and interior at this price-point.

*Frantically searches Extreme Terrain for ‘flag tail lights’*

Ohhhh baby!

My wife and I moved from Denver to Germany in the late 90's for me to do a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institute in Göttingen. We didn’t have a ton of money and just wanted to buy a cheap $2-3K used Golf. But an in-law of my wife’s family happened to live in the area and owned a dealership in nearby

Right? Intake valves, $100 each x 16. Tranny friction disks, $70 x 18 (yes, 18) and on and on...... I know the story.

User name directly inspired by my experience with the 944 (my avatar is the 2.5 l 8-V). Through much of my pain with the 944 and while shopping a 928, my P-car mechanic, who I use for only repairs that require serious tools/experience/skill (none of which I have) and who’s child I have sent through private school at

Hard to find manual is a real plus. But, as someone who has ‘refurbished’ a lowly 944, and shopped 928's, I can not even imagine the money pit this thing is. 928's are notorious for their wiring going bad. Not saying I know about this one, but it does not exactly look like it has had a thorough working-over lately.

You had me at ‘86 Maxima (loved the boxy), sealed the deal with that awsome silver center console with a legit equalizer. So gloriously 80's. Too bad about the slush, but I can overlook that in this case.

I love a good manual transmission, RWD car. But not in Fleetwood form. This boat is the reason for slush-boxes.

Admitted old person who DOES not understand stanced vehicles (or drifting, or ‘hooning’). Why on earth is it considered attractive to make an otherwise beautiful car look like it was slapped together from a cheap erector set and then covered by plastic shelf lining stapled in place? Do they then paint the damn thing

If I JUST paid $50K for a car, I can expect this simple task to be executed successfully.

Lucas electronics?

Right? How hard would it be? Flip the damn CAD drawing and cut the wheel. Or, how much would it cost to just have two molds? Look at how many wheel offerings some of these cars have, but none of them G-D directionally symmetric? To me it begs the question of where else they cut corners.

100% this. A while back there was a CP/NP with directional wheels that went one way on one side and another way on the other. I made a comment similar to yours, claiming that this would drive me nuts. Others pointed out that many (all?) top tier manufacturers do this. Ever since then I have been noticing exactly this.

Are you really saying it is okay to drive 140 MPH on a public highway? Is that your comment?

No, just no. Not on any road with regular public traffic being driven by regular people who are not trained for, or expecting someone in a 911 driving 140 MPH. Not on roads designed for 70 MPH. Just no. Not as long as my children are driving on the same public roads you.

Damn! Talk about balls.....

Plus, it would be un-nerving getting the side-eye from the shifter while driving.
