The ultimate Jalop car: a mid-engined, turbo diesel rotary, RWD, wagon with a manual transmission and pop-up headlights. I doubt any automaker is planning something like this, but if they devoted the resources they could probably pull it off. I can guaruntee they won't even try, though.

Lancia Stratos for sure. No luggage space and will probably break down multiple times every hour. But, at one point in the trip, the car will work, you'll be on a great road, and it will all be worth it. Bonus points if you find a dirt road because instant rally stage.
