Agreed, I have seen sailboat captains get within feet of another vessel (at speed under wind power) just to prove a point about right of way, and have seen one avoidable collision as a result. They do indeed get into stupid standoffs at least in my experience.

I have a soft spot for Oldsmobile. My first decent car was a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue in red with chrome wheels and the factory spoiler, and my teenage self loved that thing. Other than some very questionable quality interior bits, it was actually a great car*.

“So, for the cost of a rental car for a week, you could have a Lynk & Co 01 for an entire month. If this actually happens like they say it will, why the hell would you get a rental car?”

It takes more effort to find something decent, but there are reliable cars under $5k. In high school I bought a 1988 Ford Ranger for $500. Nothing on the interior worked (only the heater), but it ran fine for 6 months until I sold it. Bought a ‘98 Oldsmobile Intrigue for $4k and had it for 2 years with no issues

Reading the BMW X5 write up the other week reminded me of how much I love the design of the 1st gen X5. Inside and out I still think they look great, similar to the E39.

Actually, starting salaries for commercial pilots are not great, to my surprise. I always thought pilots were well paid until just the other day when I saw a video from Wendover on the tube:

I mean, to be fair, tactile buttons are much less distracting than a touch screen. But I’d say badly designed / touch sensitive controls can be just as distracting. The ones Cadillac tried come to mind.

I’d pick an E30 coupe/convertible as a fun weekend car, or an E46 wagon as a daily driver, personally. I’ve driven a few E30's in the past (learned to drive stick on one), and they are just sooo good. But the E46 is of course, a big step up in luxury and comfort.

I know Town Cars are pretty large, but that thing looks MASSIVE. You’d have to walk 8 miles east of Jesus just to circumnavigate it.

When my mom’s old Ford Escort hatch bit the dust, she replaced it with a...1995 Chevy Lumina van. It was a POS from day one. The front end was so heavy that the steering actually hurt her wrists at low speeds. The front doors were so heavy that she wouldn’t let me open them by myself when we parked facing uphill (I

I love my Mazda3 hatch, but it’s not any larger than a Jetta. Sure the hatchback gives you a bit more room than a trunk, but I think OP probably wants something larger. Plus, Idk how well child seats would fit in the back while still keeping things comfortable up front. Plenty of room for my childless lifestyle, but

That is very annoying. In my Mazda the e-brake switch has a light on it so you always know if it’s engaged or not.

At that price, with those mods and no mention of the heads being done, I think it’s too expensive. Basically drop it by the price of having the heads done and I’d say NP. With 122K and a turbo, I’d say if it hasn’t already had the heads/other work done, it will need it very soon, and it’s not cheap.

My Mazda3 (and actually, the Mazda6 too). It drives damn well for a FWD car, but I think it would be fantastic as a RWD model. It already *sort-of* has the proportions, though I think it would look even better if the hood were a bit longer.

I just read your comment on that other post, I don’t know why people think it’s a quick trip! I’d budget a minimum of 4 hours to get from Monterey to Sonoma. Honestly that’s a weekend trip, no way I’d go there and back in one day.

Thanks for sharing, what an emotionally story! I was on the edge of my chair reading.

IIRC Vovlo’s diesel engines are considered top notch when it comes to boats. It’s a fitting choice for a luxury yacht.

I am that a**hole who comes to a complete stop at every stop sign.
I don’t stop and count to 3, but I do make sure I’m fully stopped. It’s very tedious, but I’ve had a few friends get pricey tickets for incomplete stops, and I learned a lesson vicariously.

I thought it was a Stelvio

On memorial day a few (~4) years ago, my boyfriend and I were driving from Sausalito in the North Bay down to Monterey to pick up a boat (my boyfriend is a captain). We had been out sailing for a few days and didn’t remember that it was memorial day!
