I don't see why Alana has to be dead for Molly to be introduced. I think keeping her around would lead to a lot of potentially interesting psychological conflicts, which are the bread & butter of this series.

I've anticipated that both Will and Jack would survive. Jack has a major role to play in the Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs story arcs when they hopefully come around.
