I was just about to point this out.. I remember everyone being amazed by the first Philips flat screen tv commercials in 97/98. What they didn’t show was the huge box that handled all the power / electronics that had to sit somewhere. So this isn’t a new idea, but a definite improvement on an old idea.

i think thats why they are specifically being marketed now as a “Parking” brake and not an “Emergency” brake.
