Ooh, I know what I’m doing this evening.

This was fascinating. Thanks for conducting this interview and sharing it with us.

If anyone is interested I have a blog where I transcribe articles from the Victorian lady mag The Girl’s Own Paper. They did a monthly fashion column with, yes, fashion plates, and a very detailed account of what colours, fabrics and styles the cool girls would be wearing any given season.

What struck me about this article is that fashion in the 18th century was so driven by the wearer. Ideas and styles are passed from one woman to the next, and executed by her dressmaker. As opposed to today where fashion designers are supposed to be the artists and their ideas pass on down the line to a consumer.

Luurve the fashion history. Keep it up.

I know what I did: played with my sister’s whenever she left the house.

All fashion through history can best be described as this: wearing something that the commoner can’t.
