I have asked this of trans people, and they say it’s essentially up to the person in general. Some identify really strongly with the trans bit, others want to shed it immediately.

Amen to that. I am so sick of other people’s mail..the last three tenants apparently never bothered changing their address.

At least in Canada, they legally have to keep delivering the mail to the address, regardless. Trashing it might be your only option.
