The MMO video game is technically considered canon I believe. That game saw different factions rise up who started fighting with each other about forcing everyone back into the matrix. I have no idea if they keep that explanation or not.

I think XIII-2 sold decently enough in Japan for square to crank out the third game pretty quickly. Square Enix was also kind of in panic mode during that time since FF Versus XIII was in the middle of being turned into XV.

The entire trilogy is amazing and it's criminal that a vocal minority on the internet bitched and moaned it into obscurity. The ending to XIII-2 is one of the coolest things the series has ever done and the subsequent Lightning Returns is a great cap to the trilogy.

I’m still super confused that chess hasn’t been fully broken yet. It’s a super old game set with very specific set movements. How can people still find new strategies? High level chess is just setting up a move you won't make until 30 turns later.

The problem with this game specifically is that EA pulled in a bunch of other support studios a year or so ago to go all hands on deck with the game to make sure it was cranked out in time.
