I love Charles Martinet in the games but two hours of “let’sa go!” and “it’sa me, Mario” and “mamma mia” and “yah Wah HOO!” would get pretty old. Chris Pratt isn’t perfect but I understand that the studio didn’t want an Italian stereotype joke as the voice leading the whole movie.

I didn’t buy the game, but not buying the game isn’t going to do anything to stop legislation. You shouldn’t justify harassment, justifying harassment is what leads to people born into different situations creating legislation that acts to restrict the bodily autonomy of individuals.

Playing the game has nothing to do with it and attacking people over it is not winning anything at all. I guarantee mose of the people doing this have added nothing to the fight for trans rights. I vote for it, pay into it, and am myself gender fluid and was unsure of being trans and I even try to help the community

First, figure out how to reconnect with reality and discover that playing the terfy wizard world game isn’t the be-all-end-all indicator (or an indicator, period) of whether or not someone supports trans rights.

Counterpoint: The weekly release model is why I stopped watching My Hero Academia and the Binge Model is why I burned through Baki Hanma.

Me with one piece

Unpopular opinion: if Netflix pays its translators and voice actors decently and the anime wasn’t crunched in any way, I’m all for letting Netflix continue to stream the series. And for what it’s worth, the anime will still find a general audience on a mainstream platform even without a huge marketing push.

Look, Chris Pratt is Mario’s voice actor. The ship’s sailed. You want them to fire him and re-record the whole thing with Charles Martinet? Time to get over it.

He sounds fine. I get that opinion pieces are intrinsically biased by their nature, but the reactions on this site to a celebrity playing a character in a movie have been a tad extreme.

Charles Martine doing the Mario voice for a 90 minute movie would be unbearable.  Pratt is fine.  Movie looks cute.

... I’m of the mind that the Mario Movie would’ve benefitted from giving Pratt the same voice direction Marvel gave Vin Diesel for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies by limiting him to a couple of onomatopoeias. Admittedly, having Pratt bark a couple of half-hearted “Oh nos,” “Mamma mias” and “Let’s-a gos” and

The Problem with Charles Martinet? Let me tell you about The Problem With Apu.

Put me in the category of “Shoot me instead of making me watch a 2 hour movie with Martinet or Miyano and all their cliched, caricatured, fake Italian accented voiceovers.”  Works when peppered throughout a game.  Would be pure torture when actually playing the lead role in a movie.

As a 3/8ths Italian-American, I am looking forward to Chris Pratt giving some proper representation on-screen. Contrary to long standing stereotypes, no: we don’ta all talka like a dis! I have never uttered “wahoo” in my life and I don’t know any other Italian-American who does. Good on him for not leaning into lazy

I love Martinet as much as the next guy but there’s no way I could take an entire movie of that voice.  I don’t hate Pratt here but I wish he’d at least New Yorkize his voice just a little to give it some personality.

100% agreeing with you there. A full feature-length movie with Martinet’s voice as Mario would probably have me ready to punch some kids.

... and we don’t want that.

Seriously we need to stop this idea that Charles Martinet would be a good mario for 90 minutes. He does a fantastic job with the short quips and reaction lines but god if you hear him trying to do long form mario it is just grating and awful.

An entire movie with Charles Martinet doing his high-pitched catchphrase voice sounds obnoxious as hell, honestly. It’s perfect in snippets, but full on dialogue for 90+ minutes? Hard pass.

Personally, I thought Pratt sounded pretty good in the second trailer. I would not want to listen to Charles Martinet’s version for over an hour and a half.

I disagree, and a movie cast with Charles would have been obnoxious.
A movie with Mario largely speechless would have been hollow.

The modified clip with Charles was not impressive.

I get that you guys have a misplaced grudge against Chris Pratt, but you should largely get over yourselves.
