I picked up my first CD player during my freshman year of college in Fall 1985.  It was the first one in my entire dorm wing and was such a new idea, I had other students dropping by just to check it out.  As I recall, my first CD for it was Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells.

I started playing WoW back during the Friends and Family Alpha (2003 I think?) when the level cap was 30 and Scarlet Monastery was end game content. I stuck with it through Northrend and dropped out around the time Cataclysm was launched.

Your assessment is fairly accurate. While JRPGs contain most of the mechanics of traditional RPGs, such as the attributes, skills, equipment, magic and sometimes classes, you are usually playing a very specific character with a very specific backstory, personality and path through the game.

Looking forward to watching this on one of my streaming services at 1:00 in the morning when I can’t think of any better options.

I started playing RPGs back in the days of the original “White Box” edition of D&D, so western style RPGs have been part of my life for decades, and they are my preferred style of RPG.

It’s a lovely idea, and if it ever comes to pass, nearly 100% of development will move to non-union countries.

I sometimes play evil characters, but not chaotic ones. My evil characters think they are the heroes of the story.
