Well his assumption is right. Men do draw larger crowds and more viewers.

Men and women are paid the same in major tennis tournaments.
100% agreed. Athletes get paid millions of dollars because fans spend huge amounts of money going to stadiums, buying merchandise, watching cable.
I watch and enjoy both men and women’s tennis. Women’s is both different and inferior in terms of speed of play, length of matches, ball speed, etc. As a stand alone, women’s tennis is entertaining and showcases amazing athletes. It’s only when compared to men’s tennis that people can see visible differences in…
The tournament organizers don’t want to play 5 sets because it wouldn’t be as entertaining and they wouldn’t bring in as much money. Also, I’m having trouble understanding the first part of your response.
It is though. Prize money is directly correlated to how much money the players bring in. Big tournaments have the highest prizes because big names play in them, which makes more people watch the tournament.
It does. You said women would gladly play 5 sets. If they were allowed too, even less people would want to watch them play. The games would get sloppy.
Professional sports in general is an example of a meritocracy. The better you are, the more people want to see you, which translates into getting paid more. It has everything to do with women’s sports being less entertaining. You can’t compare amateur and professional sports to other institutions because there is a…
That’s not how tennis prize money works. Women and men are payed exactly the same at all Grand Slams (which are the major tournaments). If Djokovic beats Nadal in the final, then he should be paid more because he finished first. Endorsement deals are a completely different issue. Tennis players aren’t paid wages.
There’s a reason women don’t play as many sets, WNBA balls are smaller and the 3 point line closer to the hoop, female ice-skaters are scored differently, and so on. Physical differences are very noticeable, especially at the highest level. The quality of a 5 set tennis match between 2 women wouldn’t be good.
I completely agree with Djokovic here. I watch both men’s and women’s tennis. It’s one of the only sports where the difference in size and strength doesn’t have a huge effect the quality of the match/game. However, men’s tennis is generally more enjoyable. If they bring in more money, then they should be paid more.…
