Book Denethor has the same personality as I have. I loved every flawed bit about him when I read RotK. Then came the movies and I hated what they had done to him.

How would you know what the dominant species in this corner of the galaxy is?
Bwahahaha the rest of the world looks at 'murica and laughs at how intolerant the entire republican population over there is.
"if it is an immigrant, you can be even more sure they are backward" => how is this not racist? You being brown doesn't mean you can't be a racist.
You know that the existential crisis argument was invoked by the pope as a response to the invention of the crossbow, right?
I'm not saying "just make whatever AI you want", I'm saying that your point, and I quote: "any AI that achieves recursive self-improvement is effectively our species' end.", is ridiculous, wrong…
Basic evolutionary theory doesn't say that species expand to fill any available niche. Even if it did, there's no law that an AI is evolving through the principle of natural selection, if anything it's more akin to creationism. An AI "will" do whatever is the optimal solution to the problem it considers his. A self…
That doesn't seem right. An AI that can plan millennia, if not aeons, into the future may draw completely different conclusions than that one. Coöperation between species may be a way more viable option, we simply can't know because we don't have the ability to plan millennia into the future.
Two completely separate projects: finishing up my phd in experimental psychology and the other (way more fun one): opening a Leather & Rubber and general fetish (BDSM) shop, opening in 2 a little over 2 weeks :D I guess I won't be posting any pictures though, unless people ask for them :p
The chase from the goblins turned Middle Earth into a physics free zone... Hated everything about that scene..
I had the same problem as you, and used iTunes match to solve it. I deleted my entire library after the matching process was complete and then downloaded every single song from the store => pristine library :) I thought I'd just take the service for one year but they lured me in with the promise of a pristine library…
Haha, I'd want it to boom "who disturbs my slumber" at unsuspecting visitors :p
The point here is that you couldn't play the songs you bought on iTunes on portable music players, even though they were mp3's, an "open" format.
If you have lots of them you may consider getting an iTunes match account for one year; get iTunes to match your songs, delete them from your computer, then download them again and boom: no more DRM :)
Do you really think nobody doing drugs eventually becomes a productive member of society? Even if they don't, they're still human beings.
Apple opened it up years ago
Nope, there is no such lawsuit. The point of this lawsuit also isn't that you have to use itunes with the ipod, because both of those are clearly marked on the box (you need itunes to use this). The reason there is a lawsuit is that if you bought music on itunes with DRM on it, you couldn't play that music on…
I was hoping for feathers :(
Power Mac G4 Cube. Marvel of design and miniaturisation (it packed the same guts as the 4x bigger power mac G4) but unfortunately it lacked expandability and its steep price, some production (moulding) issues caused it a bad rep in it's first months and after a year it was discontinued.
The current Mac Pro Tube comes…
9,9 metric tons of carbon per year you say? Why that's not a big problem AT ALL put in perspective; according to wikipedia: "Photosynthetic organisms also convert around 100–115 thousand million metric tonnes of carbon into biomass per year" I think that 9,9 metric tons of carbon are but a drop in an ocean, no? Or of…
