My mother’s Lincoln LS has that and it’s terrible. Mostly all lag-related as you alluded to.

Yeah, I’m so pissed at them I have trouble focusing. We were originally going to get the manual with a performance model, then it was just going to be the base model, then a diesel model. I was trying to talk myself into the latter but then the day came and, sorry USA, best we can do for you is paddle-shift.
I’m not saying it’s the primary concern but if it’s possible to augment the lower-end response of the Mini engine, I’d like to at least explore that option. If not, that’s OK too. I can adapt. Had a first gen Ford Taurus SHO that didn’t really wake up until 4k and I made it work.
I tend to start with brakes first, then suspension, then power options on my older cars. I’d rather it stop than start.
What other choices than the JCW edition would allow for performance upgrades but keep the warranty intact? If I’m going to pay the premium for buying something brand-new, I’m not going to go hacking at it. When I buy used I’ll do whatever it takes to reach performance goals.
After owning a string of Starions and old Jags, I’m probably going to be buying a new car for myself the next time around. First time since I was 15 years old, in 1989.
Just wanted to throw this into the discussion with all the rest of the pro-petrol posts: I’m involved with economic development which includes in many cases the participation of utility companies. The cost per kilowatt-hour to generate from solar versus natural gas is still about 3x in most of our area, if not higher.…
Swapped a 1975 Bricklin SV-1 for a 1988 Jaguar XJS V12 once. Worked out great for both of us; he fixed the issues I couldn’t figure out on the Bricklin, while I ended up being able to take my dad for one last ride in an old Jaguar before his death due to complications from cancer.
Former StarQuest owner here, three of them. Including two at one time. Never own two Starions/Conquests at once. They begin talking to each other and comparing notes.
Here’s something that works almost as well: A decent-sized blind-spot mirror.
Never realized how bad Kier Dullea’s bottom teeth were until just this second.
That is a rolling supository.
I won’t ever know what it’s like to have this kind of performance at my fingertips, but I do know what it’s like to have that kind of crushing interest in what I was driving — that’s because I used to own a Bricklin.
He, Patrick Bedard and John Phillips (along with Csaba Csere) all having columns in the same editions together for about 2 years were, in my opinion, the high-water mark of C&D. I loved Yates’ worldview even though toward toward the end the topics got a bit repetitive. I still cannot believe he organized Cannonball…
In regards to #3, the only way it’s possible is to take everyone’s cars away from them. I’m not even sure a completely autonomous transportation system could prevent all deaths. I’m reminded of the time C. Everett Koop said his goal was to reduce the legal limit for DUI to .00 percent BAC. That’s nice to say at a…
Please, kill this video with fire before someone decides “Mustangs Towing Stuff While Leaving Cars & Coffee” becomes something they should actually try to do.
My wife and I had his & her Starions, so that ought to let you know that I lucked out in the understanding-spouse department. We probably griped TO each other as much as we did AT each other. Then we switched over to Jags and started the process all over again (her with a modern XJ8 and then an XK8, me with an 87 XJ6…
Couple of things:
I suppose the ultimate issue for me is the forward planning you reference. For me personally, any amount of forward planning beyond “I need to stop at some point 300 miles into the trip to refuel” is not acceptable, particularly if we’re talking about a single charging station well off my route.
That’s fine for the route you’re taking, but if you’re not on the coasts, you can’t pull that off. Off the top of my head, let’s say you want to go from Mobile, Ala., to Tuscaloosa, Ala. — not out of the realm of possibility; we’re talking about a trip from a major port city to the hub of Mercedes USA. The primary…
