That’s my point... the gas tax is spread across a much larger pool of people and thus doesn’t require someone to spend that amount to make up almost $400 billion.

While it would be great to attach that cost to a new car, the math just doesn’t make sense.

I worded that shitty, I’m tired today, obviously you are correct there. I was more inferring that income taxes aren’t allocated to infrastructure in a specific regard like the gas tax is.

As the article said, it hasn’t gone up in decades. With how heavily fuel prices fluctuate, 25 cents could be the swing in price over the course of a month as it is. We have cheap gas compared to most of the developed world.
