omg I participated in a civil disobedience action in Canada and so many of the comments were about how none of us had jobs, so we couldn’t complain because we were just student freeloaders living off mommy and daddy (which to be fair I am, but like 99% percent of the other people were not and this rhetoric is so weird

Thank you. I’m sick of hearing people (99% of time it’s poc or just not white straight males) talk about how other people are protesting incorrectly and/or have invalid opinions because they clearly don’t have jobs!!!! Fuck that nonsense.

Let us hope so. I will remain skeptical, but let us hope so.

Problem: the permit is up Jan 1, they can’t renew after that. They can divert the pipeline, but they can’t do it through Standing Rock.

Well, they’re right.

All indications were that the government was going to rubber stamp this with a inadequate consultation and assessment process because they’re not white (the process for 90% white Bismark was legitimate, which is why the project was rejected). The attention of media and allies delayed that (they like to do this with

I’m willing to bet that there has been a lot of work done behind the scenes. A fair bit of sausage making that isn’t shown to the public.

That’s the best dysphemism they could come up with for Native Americans.

White veterans showed up. People were going to start having opinions beyond “The North Dakota what now?

For real, like what is wrong with them expecting the water to be useable for drinking, cooking and washing? The nerve!

Because the administration orginally gave permission to build it.

True.

Just buy the most fuel efficient vehicle that you can purchase. Plug-in Hybrid that rarely uses gasoline would be best and if you can, install as much solar power as possible on your home/business.

Grow some vegetables, learn to pickle those for the winter and further decrease your carbon footprint.

It’s something

Yeah, my dad is always trying so hard to not buy from this or that gas station, telling me I shouldn’t buy from an Exxon or whatever. I keep telling him, they’re all terrible. There isn’t a gas company who hasn’t done terrible things.

And wanting their kids to not get poisoned!? The nerve.....

Nothing sums up being an asshole like “curry favor with a narrow and extreme political constituency” when you are trying to destroy any citizens’ lives to make your billions

I don’t think there are any gas station franchises (for lack of a better term because my coffee is faulty) that you can support with a clear conscience. They’re all terrible in various ways, so do the best you can and try to make up for it elsewhere.

Why did it take so long for the administration to make this decision? Is should never have gotten this far.

It reminds me of those radicals in Flint, and their bizarre and selfish demand for drinking water they could drink.

This kind of action is what it’s going to take if we want to push against power and a cause a crisis of leadership.

The White House’s directive today to the Corps for further delay is just the latest in a series of overt and transparent political actions by an administration which has abandoned the rule of law in favor of currying favor with a narrow and extreme political constituency.
