Feel guilty all you want. I don’t. I’ve worked my ass off to get where I am. I am not racist in the slightest. I’m too young to have benefitted from institutional racism and have only known a world of affirmative action.

Living in a third world country like Nicaragua you’re faced with a masked man around a corner looking to take your shit. So to live in a country where that is possible to prevent that, I will.
I wish people would just describe it as such. Ain’t no one got time for that. I just wanted to see a horror movie.
So, you’re saying you were wrong. Would you care for a recap:
Do you understand English? Racism is a noun or an adjective.
I agree. I do think that was the problem. Had it not been described as such, I probably wouldn’t have watched it as I don’t much care for suspense movies (I think that’s the right category. I don’t think it’s a thriller, but I don’t really feel like looking up the definitions to verify).
Excellent response. Do you often find your racist activities tire you out? I’d imagine being a racist does in fact take a lot of energy, going against entire cultural norms does tend to tucker one out.
So... racism? That’s your answer?
You’re passing off your opinion, and some form of previous professional experience, as a reason for why your opinion should count more than that of someone who resonated with the film.
Here’s what being racist means:
I think you might be the most racist person here.
Wow. Racist much?
Believe it or not, I can read between the lines. Don’t play innocent.
I don’t know whether you have or haven’t experienced something overtly racist or not. But, I have. In fact, I can find plenty of examples right here. But, I’m actually referring to an event where I was robbed at gunpoint by a group of black people.
I’m sorry, but frankly, it’s hard to take someone seriously when they discount my opinion because of my race.
The Shape of Water was indeed another Oscar film that I liked (seriously, I think the number of Oscar films I like I could count on both hands). But, I really just love pretty much anything Guillermo Del Toro does. Anyone can say what they want about the quality of the Hell Boy films, but no one can take away the…
as a POC, I renewed a fear I have of Non-POC.
I didn’t think either of those had many jump scares. In fact, much of the fear in the movie was based on a rising tension that only sometimes resulted in a scare. Most of the time, it was just keeping the tension the entire time.
That’s fair. I mean, you had a connection to the film based on your life experience.
You know what? I feel the exact same way. It was a film-length Black Mirror episode. Though, it wasn’t as horrifically depressing as the typical Black Mirror episode.
