a lot of my white progressive friends who live in the south (but aren’t from the south) espouse diversity initiates, while raising their kids in very non-diverse environments and make sure they live in neighborhoods with “good schools” which is really code for “less black/poor”. but they aren’t racists. /s

and this is how you end up with segregated schools: if the neighborhoods are segregated (either historically or self-selected), the schools will be, too if school is determined by where you live.
