Lol. It does matter for some fields (i.e. finance/engineering). But most of the other ones are BS.

All professional contracts are subject to the draft, which includes all AHL players who have played more than 2 years.

Players under contract (who aren’t otherwise exempt - protected players and first-and-second year pros) are eligible for the draft no matter where they’re assigned.

Waivers would still apply, so you’d be exposing most of the players that you would be trying to protect to the other 29 teams (excluding Vegas and yourself, unless Vegas also would have an option, but I don’t think so).

Nothing if they’re on a two-way contract. But that usually only applies to young guys who are (most anyway) exempt from the draft.
