The Grace scene in Talladega Nights is a better time capsule of the Bush years in America than any biopic about Bush ever could be.

Yup that’s true! I guess it’s more just that I wouldn’t describe Talladega or Anchorman or Step Brothers as Satires, even though they surely have satirical elements, especially Talladega. Other Guys felt like it got much closer to that line though. But super hard to define. Either way, agreed that it seems like he and…
Talladega Nights is an oddly lovable evisceration of American exceptionalism. I think all of his Ferrell movies have some degree of satire (and are all better than any of his post-Ferrell movies), but Talladega and Other Guys are definitely the more focused endeavors.
President Orlean (Meryl Streep)
Yes, truly if I enjoyed this movie more, we’d get this climate change situation under control! Now, does that happen if I bump it up to a B-, or do I need to go at least B+ level?
This isn’t a hot take. People on the internet say this constantly. (And like most things that describes, it’s not really true, though, sure, I get excited like everyone else when someone makes an 85-minute movie.)
145 minutes?! Movie bloat is completely out of control. My hot take is that 60-70% of movies can be competently told in 90 minutes, another 20-ish% told in 2 hours, and very, very few movies really need to be longer than 2 hours. In particular there have been vanishingly few comedies - no matter how dark or satirical…
“Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a 90s era Kevin Smith.”
“The scene plays out a bit like a sketch from SNL—neither a classic nor the absolute dregs. The same is true of another illustrating the scientists’ backup plan, an attempt to alert the media by leaking their story and guesting on a vapid morning chat show, only to receive significantly less social media attention…
I think this still goes back to an inexperienced armorer and a largely nonchalant attitude toward safety, especially gun safety, on the Rust set. Those in charge of day-to-day operations just didn’t do their jobs very well. People in charge of safety are supposed to be anal about their jobs! Everything they do is…
Most stories about this incident don’t go into great detail about the specific weapon Baldwin was handling. With a little digging I found that it was a clone of an 1873 Colt Single Action Army chambered for Colt .45 ammunition, made by an Italian arms maker called Pietta.
Only two comments to get to the Nazi comparison, bravo.
Websters’ Dictionary defines “dictionary” as “a reference book listing alphabetically terms or names important to a particular subject or activity along with discussion of their meanings and applications.” I rest my case.
Ah yes, the dictionary definition, which supersedes any de facto role that one of six producers might actually play in a movie’s production.
Would it have killed Jackson to give the Balrog a sweet rack?
So, you’re posting from a Buzzfeed “article”, that took from a Reddit thread, making a list with only 8 things, none of which are all that mindblowing. Points for not making it a slideshow, I guess.
I would raise 2016, 2017, and 2019 as some recent years that disprove this!
ah, good catch! I still stand by Legally Blonde being one of the better classic comedies out there, and deserves a spot!
Um, I think you mean Blade, 1998.
I’d knock two off of this list and replace with Spirited Away and Legally Blonde, both fantastic movies that made cultural splashes that are still felt today!
