Wow, that Bourdain quote is 100% on the money. My parents were huge food pushers and it was incredibly annoying.

Seriously, if people get used to hearing movies, they won’t ever need to see them again! Won’t someone think of the attractive actors who’ll lose all their parts to uggos!
Amy Seimetz was great in Upstream Color, and the first season of The Girlfriend Experience is unlike anything I’ve seen on TV. Highly recommended.
Just replacing the meat with beans seems lazy: the fact that TBell has already been doing this supports that. I don’t see why they don’t use a tofu scramble, either to make it egg-like or to make it closer to Chipotle’s sofrito.
Sorry but is Apple really fucking over customers by having the audacity to charge for content that they spent ~$1 billion on? No one ever said this was going to be free, and it makes no sense for it to be.
I would like to add one thing to your great write-up, partially because I just saw “Behind the Curve” last night, and I think a lot of people are missing the point of that doc.
How many hot dogs can we make out of Reggie Fils-Aime?
I remember being very upset when AD got cancelled, as I would when any of my favorite shows got canceled back then. But I distinctly remember a few years later, when I finished Veronica Mars, realizing that there’s no point in mourning. Shows either get cancelled too soon or go on long enough to no longer be relevant.…
People have mentioned this before, but Keanu Reeves is an amazing physical actor (proven by The Matrix and the John Wicks), and those types of skills are both rare and under-recognized. Not many actors could convincingly pull off the martial arts in that movie. I don’t think Will Smith’s skills tend that way either.
To be fair, I read that passage and came away thinking that Liam Neeson was ashamed to have had that reaction. This is the interviewer’s editorialization, but it’s still mentioned...
As someone who’s purposefully been waiting to watch until the season is out... I _really_ _really_ wish these titles didn’t spoil the show.
OTOH, who cares? If the movie’s good, we have a new entry into the canon. If it’s not, the world isn’t going to end. The last Ghostbusters movie came and went and not much has changed.
Ah, that’s true! In my defense, I grew up in Jersey, and we always assume Jersey made everything.
I thought White Manna was the original?
I agree about things feeling rushed. I also think it was a mistake in the last episode to show so much of Lawnmower Man at home with Ann Dowd, it really drew some of the terrifyingness away from the villain. (And Ann Dowd is great but her character is ridiculous.) Like Jaws and Alien, the less we would have seen of…
Okay, I’ll bite.
Most of the male-directed action sequences I’ve seen are garbage, so I’m dying to see a non-male point of view on them. (And one of my favorite action sequences this year was from You Were Never Really Here by the great Lynne Ramsay.)
Yeah, they probably did. This article is from 4 years ago about an even more-established franchise spending $200m:
Blade Runner is massively influential and stunning to look at, but it’s basically a two-hour music video prelude to a devastating Roy Batty speech.
Just want to say, A++ on the title.
